The Best New Retail in London – May 2025

Once again, London has an eclectic range of stores opening this month, reflecting the varying culture across the capital, from luxury and boutique to small niche pop-ups.
A number of themes are key across retail stores we found, including localisation, sustainability and nostalgia. An interesting new development this month is the inclusion of filming and broadcasting in stores. This allows stores to stream and film events and activities, and connects with the community building that forms part of many retail strategies.
We found a pop-up laundrette, a boutique coffee bar and furniture brand with collections curated by locals. Read on for all of the best new retail in London.

IKEA, Oxford Street
Swedish homeware brand IKEA launched its first Central London flagship this month.
The new space has been designed to reflect life in London, with the inclusion of areas designed and curated by people living in the city. This includes three shop-in-shops that contain products selected by Londoners, and a series of room layouts to reflect real London living spaces to inspire others with their home design. Local events and exhibitions will also be included within the new Live Studio area, a space for hosting and broadcasting different activities.
Sustainability is an additional focus for this store, with the inclusion of a Re-Shop and Re-Use area for second-hand products and discontinued stock. For those after more bespoke pieces, there is expertise and advice available from the design services space. Finally, the store also includes a Swedish Deli with the brand’s famous meatballs available to eat in or take away.

Dries van Noten, Hanover Square
A new solo store from Belgian design brand Dries van Noten has arrived in London.
The space was originally a bank, but the brand has designed it to have the feel of a gallery, in keeping with its new concept of customers discovering fashion pieces like art. To complete the look, the store has a curated collection of art and furniture throughout, including lithographs by David Hockney, an etching by Man Ray and chairs from Ron Arad.
Upon entering the store, customers can find the womenswear collection, along with beauty products and perfumes. In the basement, the menswear collection is joined with a “vinyl corner”, where shoppers can purchase vintage records.

Another Swedish brand to arrive in London this month is Nudie Jeans.
The brand is committed to sustainability and second-hand items alongside new, seeing increasing sales from Gen Z. The new space is centred only on denim and also functions as a repair shop.
Customers are able to visit the new store and find new Nudie Jeans lines, vintage pieces, and a repair centre, visible in the store front. Free repair services are available for Nudie Jeans pieces, or customers can trade in their Nudie Jeans for 20% off in the store.

Fanatics Collectibles, Regent Street
Memorabilia and card brand Fanatics Collectibles has opened its first flagship store in London.
The store focuses on trading cards, supplies, merchandise and memorabilia. Customers can also view a display of rare trading cards, which forms the centre of the store.
Collectors will be able to find branded cards from Merlin, Bowman and Topps. Topps has acquired rights to Premier League and UEFA cards, which will be offered in-store alongside other exclusive items.
The space will also host events aimed at the collector community, including signings and card trading nights. Other areas in the store include a studio for live and recorded “breaking”, where people open card packs, and a space to create personalised cards.
Topshop pop-up, Shoreditch
For one day only, iconic British brand Topshop held a pop-up event in collaboration with Defected Records called Topshop In The House.
The pop-up was a taster for the permanent space planned by the brand later on this year and also celebrated Topshop’s new summer collection, Talamanca. The pop-up also included special merchandise in partnership with Defected, who wanted to reflect the original Oxford Street history, with basement parties. Visitors to the space could also see artwork from Russ Jones and listen to DJ sets from Defected Records. Drink brand MOTH supplied cocktails and makeup artists were also on hand to help style visitors.
The free tickets for the pop-up were available to pre-book and ran out almost immediately, though it still offered some walk-in slots.

Nespresso, Covent Garden
Coffee brand Nespresso has opened its latest flagship store with a new boutique concept.
Vicky Charles helped to design the space which includes custom British furniture from Cox London and George Smith.
The store has a number of different areas to allow customers to explore coffee, including a new Taste and Discover bar. Shoppers can take part in masterclasses with coffee experts and use the Ripples Machine to create coffee art. They will also be able to try new coffee collections, such as the summer iced coffee range.
The Coffee & Lifestyle space has a variety of Nespresso machines and accessories, while the Recycling Area enables customers to recycle their coffee pods. Shoppers can also have items personalised at the Art of Gifting station, and relax in the Lounge area.
Gymshark Londrette pop-up, East London
A unique pop-up from fitness wear brand Gymshark launched for the May bank holiday weekend.
The brand took over a sandwich shop and transformed it into a retro laundrette and tailor shop, aimed at the Hyrox fitness community. The space had coin operated washing machines (using coins from Gymshark) and photos of the brand’s founder.
Hyrox patches are given to people for finishing races, but often have trouble staying on clothing. The new pop-up enabled runners to have their patches sewn onto hoodies and other items. Runners could also get a drink from Puresport, which were provided in cartons that resembled washing powder cartons.
